Recommended Restaurants around Mijas
Eating out is a major part of the Spanish way of life whether it be in one of the many tapas bars or in a local venta ,( a country restaurant often in the middle of nowhere). The ventas usually serve good food at very reasonable prices. Many offer a Menu del Dia (menu of the day) for under 10 euros and this is a 2 or 3 course meal which more often than not includes a bottle of wine!
Most Spanish people have a continental breakfast followed by the comida (lunch) between 2p.m and 3p.m and then their evening meal (cena) at around 9p.m. to 10p.m. A restaurant which is practically empty early evening can be packed by 10 o´clock!
All along the coast are chiringuitos (beach restaurants) and these are a must for lovers of seafood. A wide variety is on offer including fresh sardines which are cooked on spits over an open fire and deep fried boquerones (whitebait) accompanied by a fresh salad and a glass or two of tinto de verano (summer wine) makes for a perfect lunch.
Most of the Spanish restaurants serve Paella and many of the locals enjoy this dish with the whole family on a Sunday lunchtime.

Venta Los Morenos
Located at the roundabout on the Mijas – Coin road. This venta is very popular with both locals and visitors. It offers a wide range of traditional Spanish dishes with meats on the barbeque on holidays and weekends.
Bar Alarcon
In the village of Mijas in the Santana district – serves a good selection of very reasonably priced Spanish food. There is a roof terrace for dining al fresco in the summer months where you can enjoy wonderful views as well as your meal.

El Capricho
Well known for excellent international cuisine and service, it is situated in the centre of Mijas in Calle los Canos and has an attractive terrace which overlooks the plaza.
